Annual Catapult Challenge
(The Information below is for those that volunteer to bring in a projectile machine)

Due Dates:

  • May  - Preliminary design drawings must be submitted and approved.
  • May   - Each group is required to give a photographic update of their catapult and their team members.

  • June  - Final Project must be placed on Newton’s Row BEFORE 1st period.
  • June  - Credit is awarded only after your machine is removed from school grounds!

Requirements:

  •  All machines must have a release mechanism allowing it to remain in “ready position” until triggered.
  • Metal springs, bungee cords, rubber bands, or modern elastic materials must NOT be used. 

Small Catapults:

  • The length of the lever arm (as measured from the pivot or fulcrum) must not exceed 40 cm (15 ¾ in).
  • Projectile is a standard golf ball.

Large Catapults:

  • The length of the lever arm (as measured from the pivot or fulcrum) must equal 1 meter (39 in).
  •  Projectile is a standard lacrosse ball.
